Get KidGrowth on Google PlayThe World Health Organization publishes reference tables for every month of age, separately for boys and girls: the Child Growth Standards for ages 0 to 5 (2006) and the Growth Reference for ages 5 to 19 (2007). The calculator places the height you entered on the curve for that age and sex and returns the share of children who are shorter. These are the same tables the clinic and the app use.
Body mass index changes naturally with age in children, so the number on its own says nothing without a reference table. The calculator shows the BMI percentile for age and sex, just like the height curve. Here too, a single measurement is context, not a diagnosis.
The mid-parental method is the simple tool pediatricians use as a first estimate: the parents' average height, plus 6.5 cm for a boy or minus 6.5 cm for a girl. Most children end up within about 8.5 cm of that value. Nutrition, sleep, the timing of puberty and health all shape the result, which is why it is a reference point and not a promise.

Yes, from birth. For ages 0 to 5 it uses the WHO Child Growth Standards, which were built on breastfed infants, which is also why child health clinics use them.
First, measure again carefully: a centimetre of error moves a baby several percentiles. Many children grow along a low, steady percentile. What a pediatrician wants to see is the direction across several measurements, so bring the record.
Because the WHO curves are separate for boys and girls, and the gap between them is real at every age. Without a sex there is no percentile, and no default is assumed.
